I'm driven by an unwavering passion for technology, specialising in AWS and a wide range of cloud services. Over the last decade my path has moved from hands-on network engineering to Linux systems administration, and now to platform and infrastructure engineering — building and running the monitoring and automation that large organisations depend on every day.

I enjoy the problem-solving side of the job as much as the building side: tracing an incident back to its root cause, tightening a noisy alert, or turning a manual runbook into something that deploys itself.

Infrastructure Engineer

Department for Work & Pensions, Manchester, UK

Working within the Enterprise Tooling Team, supporting and maintaining the large-scale monitoring and infrastructure platforms that underpin critical citizen-facing services. Day to day this means keeping the systems that watch every other system healthy, reliable, and quick to flag when something's wrong.

Administer BMC TrueSight, including monitoring configuration, threshold policies, blackout management, and onboarding new infrastructure devices.
Manage and support Entuity for network and infrastructure monitoring, covering onboarding, configuration, and day-to-day administration.
Actively involved in the migration from BMC TrueSight Operations Management (TSOM) to BMC Helix, contributing to the modernisation of enterprise monitoring.
Investigate and resolve infrastructure and monitoring-related incidents, performing root cause analysis and supporting problem management.
Deliver Incident, Problem, and Change Management in line with ITIL standards using ServiceNow.

A CI/CD pipeline built with GitHub Actions, Packer, Terraform, and Ansible that takes a commit all the way to a running, zero-downtime deployment in AWS — without anyone touching a server by hand.

GitHub Actions automates the build, test, and deployment process, triggering the pipeline on every commit and pull request. Packer then builds an immutable, custom AMI so every deployment starts from the same known-good image. Terraform provisions the AWS infrastructure itself — EC2 instances, load balancers, and auto-scaling groups — and Ansible handles configuration management, rolling the latest version of the application out across instances with no downtime.
